Dunstable

A Bedfordshire parish and market town, East of England, is Dunstable (/ˈdʌnstəbəl/ DUN-stə-bəl). Third largest in Bedfordshire, Dunstable is Central Bedfordshire's largest settlement. It forms the westernmost part of the Luton/Dunstable Urban Area, along with Houghton Regis and Luton.

Where the East Midlands' Norse jarls arranged southern Bedfordshire raids, one such raid occurred in 912, including the Dunstable areas. In response to the Massacre of St. Bride's executed by Bedfordshire' King Athelred the Unready, and the Dunstable area by extension was affected by Norse raids that were later, under Kings Cnut of Denmark and Sweyn Forkbeard. The Woodside Estate, which contains most of the factories and warehouses that still exist in Dunstable, is in the area. In 2013, Construction of the Busway of Luton Dunstable between Luton Airport, Dunstable, and Houghton Regis was completed.

The Branch Lines of Dunstable served Dunstable to Leighton Buzzard and from the railway station of Dunstable Town. In 2016, (Ashton Middle School later) the Grammar School of Dunstable closed and its buildings have been converted to private residences. Home of the Dunstable Rep Theatre Group that hosts dramatic performances throughout the year, one of the little gems is that of the Little Theatre.

To support the British Army in the Second World War, the plant of Bedford Dunstable in 1942 came into production. The Police force of Bedfordshire serve Dunstable, where the Commissioner of Crime and Police is Kathryn Holloway. A further education site, which serves students from Dunstable and the surrounding area, is Central Bedfordshire College.

Along with Dunstable Leisure Centre, parks and open spaces are kept by Central Bedfordshire Council. Dunstable was a municipal borough before the Local Government Act 1972 in 1974. To be replaced in the early 20th century by the printing and motor vehicle industries, the 19th century saw in Dunstable a subsequent decline when the industry of making straw hats come to Luton, with companies such as Waterlow's and Vauxhall Motors.

In this area, there are a lot of prehistoric sites and details can be found with Dunstable's Archaeological Society of Manshead who are in Winfield Street. Home to football clubs that are senior, AFC Dunstable and Dunstable Town F.C. who both play at the Creasey Park Stadium is the town.
